Ann T Hite et al Bill of Sale to Manuel Jackson         
Know all men by these presents, that we Ann T Hite, J S Davidson and P Williams Jr Executors of Isaac Hite, decd and the said Ann T Hite, and J S Davidson, in their own right, and said P. Williams Jr for his two children Philip W. and Ann H Williams, Isaac T Hite, Walker M Hite, P. Elizabeth L Hite, Rebecca G Loder and said J S Davison, P Williams Jr. and Isaac T Hite, Trustees for said Rebecca G Loder, for and in consideration of the sum of Eight hundred dollars to them in hand paid by Manuel Jackson the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained, and sold, and by these presents, grant, bargain and sell, unto the said Manuel Jackson, a Negro boy named Manuel aged about 21 years, Given under our hands and seals, this 18th day of January 1837.

Whereas, Isaac Hite, now decd in his lifetime, agreed with Manuel Jackson, a free man of Color that he would sell to him a Negro boy, named Manuel, the son of said Manuel Jackson, and Whereas, all of the children and legatees of said Isaac Hite, who are of age, have agreed that the Executors of said Isaac Hite may sell said Manuel, to said Manuel Jackson for Eight hundred dollars payable as follows, $500, in hand, and for the residue, a note with Jno Scroggin as security, the proceeds of sale to be applied in the same manner, as the Negro boy would have been disposed of, according to the provisions of the Will, and have agreed to indemnify the Executors of said Isaac Hite, against all injury they may possibly be subject to an account of said sale. Now Know all men by these presents, that we, Ann T. Kite, J S Davison, P. Williams Jr for his two children, Philip C and Ann H Williams, Isaac T Hite, P. Eliz. L Hite, Mark Bird and Sarah C. his wife, Walker M Hite and Rebecca G Loder, in order to evidence our assent to the sale aforesaid, and our agreement to indemnify the Executors of said Isaac Hite have hereunto set our hands and seals this 18” January 1837.

Virginia- I, Thomas Allen Tidball Clerk of the County Court of Frederick, do hereby certify that the foregoing Bill of Sale, from Ann T Hite and others to Manuel Jackson, is genuine, and that Philip Williams Jr and J Smith Davison, to of the persons who have signed the same, have qualified in the said Court as Executors of the last Will and Testament of Isaac Hite decd of Record therein, In testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affix the seal of the said Court, the 25th day January, 1836, and in the 61-year of the Commonwealth.

Emanual Jackson Sr Freedom Paper To Emanual Jackson Jr. 

Know all men by these presents that I Emanual Jackson, of the Town of Birmingham, in the County of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, but formerly of Frederick County, in the State of Virginia, from motives of parental affection, have manumitted and set free, and do hereby manumit and set
free from slavery, my son Emanual (who is about five feet, 6 ½ inches in height, and has a scar on his forehead over the right eye, and whose complexion is yellow, being the same person named and described in the within Bill of Sale.) who became my slave by the sale and conveyance within set      forth, – and I do hereby give grant and release unto the said Emanual my son, All my right, title and claim, of, in and to his person, labour and service, and of, in and to the estate and property, which he may hereafter acquire and obtain.  In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this Third day of February, in the year of Our Lord, One Thousand Eight hundred and forty one.

Before me an Alderman, in and for said City, personally came the above named Emanual    Jackson, and acknowledged the above Instrument of writing intended to be a manumission of his son Emanual, to be his hand and seal, his act and deed, and desired, the same might be recorded as such,  Witness my hand and seal at Pittsburgh Pa, this 3d day of February, A. D. 1841.
