Retail, Wholesale, Department Store Union Local 101 Pittsburgh, PA

HISTORICAL SKETCH
Local 101 was chartered on June 1, 1937.  The Local quickly began organizing workers in the retail department store industry in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  One of the first department stores the Local organized was Rosenbaum's.  Rosenbaum's went out of business in the late 1950's.  Local 101 also organized workers employed at Frank & Seder's department store.  Unfortunately, Frank & Seder's also went out of business.  Local 101 also organized workers employed at Kaufmann's department store.  At first, Local 101 organized the workers at Kaufmann's Warehouse and the non-selling employees in the downtown Pittsburgh store.  Later, Local 101 organized some of the selling employees in the downtown store.  Kaufmann's is one of the two remaining department stores in downtown Pittsburgh.  Their warehouse is now located next door to Three Rivers Stadium.
